Angie @ 9:49 PM [link]
okay since i can't sleep b/c the oscars are on
which i'm actually really annoyed because i have a headache and want sleep
except the tv is on, and it' s hard to sleep with light and noise...gripe gripe gripe
wow, i actually had this conversation brought up a long time ago and no one responded
i think nudity can be very beautiful
why do you think artists learn by drawing the naked human body
i guess i'm going to be hypocritical to say, that yes i would be uncomfortable on a nude beach
or seeing naked people walking around, nor can i undress fully in front of most others
and i certainly don't like it when girls (and guys) dress slutty all the time
the human body is beautiful, but it doesn't mean being overly provocative in the public eye
we preserve it's beauty in certain ways and art form can be one of them
you sort of pick and choose in a sense how it is displayed and who it's displayed for
pornography is not a form of art to me, it is entertainment, yes, not art
there you are creating lust for the purpose of lust
but you could say it's hard to draw a line between porn and art sometimes
it is also hard to dictate what children can see, also with violence
religion is manufactured
people want something to believe in
no, what is up with guys and butts?

Kristan @ 1:07 PM [link]
Yeah, I'm not gonna touch the Christianity thing. I don't like organized religion in general, so I think I'm biased.
As for nudity, I speak for myself when I say I'm not really comfortable with most displays of it. Generally speaking, I don't find naked bodies attractive -- I agree with Adam's paraphrasing of the Pope, and I'll take a spin on that to say that men and women can be much sexier (i.e. more attractive) wearing more rather than wearing less (i.e. nothing). I'll take jeans over nudity (or briefs, even) any day. (There's a certain fit of jeans on a guy that I just looooove. ; ]) Same goes for chicks -- much sexier to wear, I dunno, a miniskirt and halter top, than nothing at all.
But I suppose that's veering off-topic a bit.
But then again, I don't really feel like going too much into my opinion. Basically, I don't think over-exposure for nudity is good for society -- I feel more like your body should be something you respect and share only with those you truly care about.
On a completely unrelated note: why isn't this a story about CMU???! : (
Harvard announces that they will no longer seek any financial contribution from parents who make less thatn $40,000

nudity, is nudity frankly i believe the reason it is unacceptable in OUR society is because there arent many places where you would be comfortable walking around naked (climate wise). Even when it is hot outside you need some sort of protection. Maybe it evolved from that. Or maybe it is some sort of weird human instinct of insecurrity, hate to bring religion into this but thats wat seems to have been the case for adam and eve they saw themselves nude and felt ashamed and hid in the bushes. Watever i dunno.
And Adam is right about the eenie meenie minne mo thing, i heard it from my parents way back when. They also had a racial name for kolaches but we wont get into that.

justin @ 5:18 PM [link]
Staying on Olivia's original topic of nudity:
I think the reason society deems nudity morally wrong or unacceptable is because images of naked bodies tend to distract people. I think it's fair to say that males in general are very visually orientented, and so naked images of females would cause us to become lustful, or at the very least distracted. (I think it's the sexual lust that makes nudity a moral issue) Granted, every person is different, but I don't believe guys can ever become completely "numb" to such images, the way our brains function just doesn't allow that.
Just speaking from the male side. Unless it's an image to portray a work of art (and the definition of art will be scrutinized as well), naked images will distract us. It's somehow different for women.
Now digressing into Wylie's bunker...
Nope, I still think for this issue, sensitivty still applies. Conservative Christianity might keep sex as a hush-hush topic, but the act is totally fine within the bounds of marriage. The link between nudity and saving sex for marriage isn't strong enough to group the two as near equals (although they are slightly related). Nudity incites lust, lust tempts you to have sex, embracing the temptation and sex outside marriage = bad, but the sex doctrine isn't directly related to our view upon nudity. That goes to the Bible saying lust is bad. So basically, yeah, I hereby *flame* you for badly equating the two.

Sorry guys, but about the party thing more talking less dancing, I would have to totally rip that idea. First of all you dont need a party to call your friends and go ANYWHERE and talk. Second of all I always stop and talk to people at parties whats preventing you from doing the same. And a majority of the time if you look at any of our parties, most of the people are not on the dance floor, they are indeed talking. So thats all I have to say about...
Oh ya it Snowed in hotlanta ill post pictures later.

Everyone -- AWESOME links: Are you Dixie or Yankee? and Texas College Humor.

yeaaaaaaaah. *kicks ass*
so it sucks when your professor gives you like, a 25/100 for a two-question assignment. i think it's his way of forcing us to put a lot of effort into the "mandatory" rewrite. his overall methods are frustrating, but i guess they work.
that aside, speaking of evil beach signing on guestbooks..
i kind of feel like i want to go to the beach. sprawl out and pretend there's nothing to worry about. rock out on the sand and forget about bad headaches, ex-boyfriends who make you cry, those freezing rainy days that ruin your mood, that time you got lost on campus, the way you feel when you realize you totally suck at something you thought you'd have a chance to be good at, people hanging up on you while you're on the verge of tears, bad hair days, bad skin days, bad outfit days, missing family, missing friends, computer crashes, computer programming that takes hours, that time when livejournal or blogger or xanga deleted your entire long entry, the time taco bell made you throw up, the guy who gave you a cigarette burn at a club, printers that won't work, and pictures that didn't come out right.
yes. so i think you should throw a beginning-of-summer beach party some time. before it gets too hot.
class time. blogger is such a great way to burn time.
have a great daaaaaaay

Hey kids who use Alxnet guestbooks: yes, there's a nasty virus encoded in an entry for the surfonbeach[dot]com website or something. (Don't go there, don't be stupid.) Basically all you need to do to make your guestbook safe is go to www.alxnet.com and log in, then go to Edit and Delete Entries, and delete the one with the <iframe> at the beginning (should be the most recent one).
Be sure to do this and then post and let people know when your guestbook is clean again. I've already done this for my guestbook, the monstergirls guestbook, and all of Albert's (his rally one, the old BGH one, the Remix one, the old CNET one, and ... one other I can't remember).

Well, Gunbound is loved, but Worms is still pretty hot right now. Hehe, I remember back in the day (meaning like '94) when Lemmings was the shiz. And still I maintain that Modus Operandi is the coolest ever, even if it doesn't have pictures. (Haha, any of you guys remember me playing that at Kinkaid when Mr. Vigil wasn't looking? *halo* I mean... *looks around*) : D

my snow experience of Austin:
I was at Midnight Rodeo (a country dancing bar), and the DJ guy announces "Ladies and Gents, it is now SNOWING OUTSIDE!!" and so when the song ends, all of the college kids rush the exits. About half of us was from Houston, so we naturally went crazy. And the snow kept piling up. Super AWESOME! Hearing the sound of snowflakes falling on your car while you're inside the car ... something about it makes it all memorable.
Of course, the fact that I was at Midnight rodeo at the same time made it cooler.

Quick answers just for the record, since I already told Angie on the phone earlier today:
1 - No, 'cause I don't drink, but I think it would influence what someone drinks, not whether they drink. Peers, family, school, and personal values do that.
2 - Going with freedom of speech, yeah, I think alcohol advertising is okay, though it obviously needs to be regulated, because...
3 - Yes, I think kids are affected by alcohol advertising. Young minds are very impressionable, and if they see a young movie star or singer casually chugging back a beer, yeah, they're not gonna think it's a bad thing. (And it isn't necessarily, but it can be.)

hahah 100% kucinich, 99% kerry, whew, 93%dean
okay i need a favor: could y'all help me with my homework by answering these questions:
1. do you think alcohol advertising has influenced you? (as a consumer to buy this)
--or if you do drink, is it more peer related influence? (or what is it that influences you to drink?)
2. do you think alcohol advertising is okay? (yes or no)
3. do you think young kids are affected by alcohol advertising?
if y'all could answer here or email me at elephants_rule@hotmail.com your responses, that'd be really great!
thanks!

I think he was reaching for the top layer, but pulled it all off. The expression on her face says it all. I don't think the best actor or actress could pull off an expression like that.

Lol matt halftime show did suck until the end. That made up for it. And guys... that wasnt any sticker...
SO what do you think happened. Ive got a couple of hypothesis. First Janet and Justin played a trick on everyone. OR Justin was supposed to pull the top layer off and accidently pulled the whole thing off. Its obvious that he was reaching to pull something off no mistake about it. What do you guys think.

justin @ 11:56 PM [link]
yeah, the only semi-decent commercials involved cars or the 7-up truck. All others were pretty bad. And the half-time show? My goodness, did anyone catch what happened right at the end of it? CBS was pretty good at cutting the feed pretty quick (I guess there was a 5 second delay in real time between live action and broadcast for the censorship committee to...well, to do their job). At first I wasn't sure whether it was planned or not, I couldn't believe that something like that was actually aired on public TV (I thought it was fake, I thought the skin was wayyyy too light for Janet), but apparently Justin screwed up..
There was a streaker too. CBS was pretty funny about handling it. All the guys in the room were laughing that during the whole thing CBS had a zoom in on some player's face, and then the halftime stats soon followed. The background displayed the blimp's view of reliant, and you can see fuzzy dots converging onto one location to get the streaker. CBS only referred to the incident once by calling it an onfield delay, or someting.
The game, however, totally rocked. Best Game Ever.

Matt @ 9:48 PM [link]
I just have to say those were the worst superbowl commercials ever. Plus the halftime show just sucked.
